Carnoles Palace Museum of Fine Arts in Menton
Carnoles Palace Museum of Fine Arts is one of the most important French museums and it is housed in the Princes of Monaco Palace, their former summer residence.
Carnoles Palace Museum of Fine Arts offers a unique luxury and splendor with its golden doors, panels, decorated ceilings and magnificent floors. It exhibits marvelous collections of ancient and modern paintings: Italian paintings from the 12th to the 15th century, Greek icons, Flemish and Dutch paintings belonging to Mr Wakefield’s collection, who decided to donate it to the town of Menton. The Museum of Fine Arts collections reflect Wakefield’s love for beauty and aesthetics.
The Museum of Fine Arts houses high quality artistic and cultural events, especially the most famous Menton International Art Biennals, created by Matisse during his presidency in 1951, which celebrated several important artists over the years such as Dufy, Rouault, Villon, Picasso, Chagall, Dalì, Graham Sutherland and Delvaux.
